ABOUT THE PROJECT

I am always uneasy about answering the question "What do you do?" I am equally stumped by "What have you been up to?" Portable Exhibition Venues started in order to avoid standard answers to these kinds of questions.

Now, when asked, I reply, "Well, I've been curating. Do you want to see a show?"

To accompany the unexpected immediacy of this option, I follow the comment with one of the following gestures.

OPTION #1 Turn red hat inside out
OPTION #2 Unzip sides of back pockets
OPTION #3 Unsnap pouch from the inside of jacket
OPTION #4 Kick up feet - reveal sole of shoe
OPTION #5 Take out wallet - shuffle through
OPTION #6 Press play on portable CD player

Each Portable Exhibition Venue is created specifically for the individual artist. Artists are chosen either on the basis of their previous work or perhaps in part to an interesting conversation we may have had. There are no slide submissions, no resumes, and no ass-kissing.

Each Venue circumvents the usual gallery process and creates an alternative to traditional art spaces. This makes the artwork readily available and accessible to a non-gallery-hopping audience.

The Venues are about everyday attire, casual settings, mundane & unspectacular surroundings, and people being able to interrupt me while I am out doing my daily activities.
